Mix & Match Summer Fun:

Registration Form

Choose one or more of these summer Mix & Match (M&M) classes to help your child get a head start for the next school year.  Max. enrollment:  4 students per class.

The classes below are offered in two-week Blocks.    

Block 1:  June 24 to July 5

Block 2:  July 8 to July 19

Block 3:  July 22 to August 2 

••A student may enroll for multiple blocks of the same class.  Content will be tailored to the ability of the student.

••Homework may be required in academic classes.

••Grades indicated are the grade your child will ENTER in August 2013.

GETTING READY FOR NEXT YEAR

KINDERGARTEN:  READY, SET, GO!   (grade K)

Is your pre-schooler ready for kindergarten? Does s/he know that story time is listening time and to raise a hand to ask a question? Can s/he read and write rhyming words (cat, bat, rat, hat, sat, fat) and read basic sight words (and, I, a, no, the)? Can s/he tie shoes? From skills to beginning academics, your child will become Ready and Set to Go to Kindergarten. Limit 3 students to a class.

GET READY FOR NEXT YEAR  (grades 1-5)

Each class will include a brief assessment of what the child has learned in last year’s grade, a review of material that was not mastered, and preparation for next year’s material.  (Grade indicated is grade for August 2013.) 

#All classes are Block 3 / M,W,F / 1 hour / $105/Grade.

FUN SUMMER CLASSES

VACATION DESTINATIONS  (grades 3-5)

Over the river and through the woods to Grandmother's house we go...............or wherever you go.  How will you get there?  Are there rivers, woods, lakes, mountains? What animals, birds, plants will you see?  This class will be tailored to answer all your child's questions about the unique features of your vacation destination.

THE SCIENCE OF SPEED!  (grades 3-5)

Soaring airplanes, rocking roller coasters and fast cars. In the air, on the ground and places in between.  We'll explore what makes things go FAST.  On the last day of this class (Note:  Saturday, July 20) we will go to the model plane airport and fly radio controlled planes with the Flying Electrons.  Parents are invited.

ACADEMIC SUMMER CLASSES

HOW TO WRITE AN “A+” ESSAY  (grades 6-8)

Building from a review of the 5-paragraph essay, students will add clarity and interest to their writing through the use of descriptive words, figurative language (metaphors, personification, etc.), and active voice.  Great preparation for middle and high school writing.

STUDY SKILLS AND TEST PREPARATION  (grades 6-9)

After an initial assessment, each student will develop study skills and test preparation techniques suited to his or her personal learning style.

MENTAL MATH  (grades 3-4)

Make math fast and fun.  Mental Math will introduce new techniques like how to add and subtract 2- and 3-digit numbers and add columns of numbers at top speed, with and without paper.  Kids will combine and sharpen skills while they play math games, such as Math Tiles.   Parents are welcome, too.

SWIM, DON'T SINK:  PRE-ALGEBRA INTERVENTION   (grades 7-9)

Algebra is “deep water” math.  Make sure your child can swim.  After an initial assessment, this class provides pre-tests, homework materials, and post-tests to specifically target and correct your child’s math learning gaps.

#Hour sessions, twice weekly, flexibly scheduled over 4 weeks. / $140 (minimum of 5 sessions at $28/hour)

NAME YOUR SUBJECT  (grades K-12)

What does your child need in order to do better in school next year or to enrich the summer:   French, Spanish, world geography, elementary biology, reading?  Let us know.  If you name it, we will try to provide it.

#Blocks 1,2&3 / Monday through Friday / time flexible / $200 (minimum of 5 sessions at $40/hour)   [If only one student enrolls, the fee will be the same as for 1-to-1 tutoring.]

1-TO-1 TUTORING  (grades K-12)

TVLC will continue to offer its personalized 1-to-1 tutoring program that it offers during the school year.  Our instruction is tailored to the student’s needs, and tutoring focuses on the school subject(s) needed by the student.  Contact Twin Valley Learning Center for registration.  Do not complete the Mix&Match registration form.

#Fees per session:  45 minutes = $38 / 60 minutes = $43
